Presented by John Warren
Hello, I’m John Warren.
This video is about the Leadership 101 Workshop from GVAD,
Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
For ages from 17 (grade 12), including DHH VCC students, and up to age 40.
If you want to become a board member, volunteer, or to advocate, this workshop from GVAD will help you to understand your strengths and weaknesses and areas where you can succeed or struggle.
We will have discussions and brainstorming sessions!
This way we grow stronger!
Why is it important for you to serve the community?
I will present and share my successes from organizing 5 Deaf EXPOs in the past!
I will talk about and explain these experiences.
I notice that I’m good at engaging people.
How does that work?
What makes us good at motivating and involving others?
I will explain this.
Individualism and collectivism – What’s the difference?
I’ll also cover extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation comes from within, from your heart! Extrinsic motivation means a person prefers external reward.
I will explain skills to successfully use both types of motivation!
We will discuss understanding boundaries, bullying, crab theory, and horizontal violence.
How do you analyze confusing behavior and how to understand it?
I will explain and help you understand these concepts.
I will talk about how to stand strong and how to stay motivated!
GVAD is important because of social activities, yes!
But also because of politics and advocacy.
How do we make the government notice GVAD?
And how do we make the world recognize GVAD?
Two reasons why GVAD is important: social activity and politics.
This workshop includes group discussions and presentations.
